THE NCH STORY - A FAMILY AFFAIR
ECU is pleased to spotlight NCH Corporation as a longtime ECU member group
since May 1983. NCH, founded in 1919, operates in more than 50 countries,
manufacturing, distributing and selling maintenance supply, plumbing and pet products.
Milton P. Levy Sr. founded National Disinfectant Company in 1919 in Dallas. The high quality of its products allowed NCH to survive and prosper during the Great Depression in the 1930's. In 1946, National Disinfectant Company came under the leadership of his three sons, Lester, Milton and Irving. In 1960, the company was renamed National Chemsearch Corporation and 1961, moved its national headquarters from downtown Dallas to Irving, Texas. The company became public in 1965 and began trading its shares on the New York Stock Exchange in 1969. National Chemsearch Corporation became NCH Corporation in 1978 and in 1988 achieved its first listing as a Fortune 500 company. During that time, NCH advanced in its leadership in the chemical specialties industry and for the first time diversified to include other product lines.
In 2002, the Levy family acquired all of the NCH common stock and returned the company to private-ownership status. The Levy family remains its principal executive officersa and now includes Lester's sons, Walter and Jester Jr., daughter Ann, and Irving's sons, Robert and John.
